Service Selection Board

Service Selection Board, commonly known as "SSB INTERVIEW'' processes the candidates through Personality and Intelligence Assessment Tests in order to determine their potential and suitability for the purpose of commissioning them into the Indian Armed Forces as Officers.

A general preview of the interview process in SSBs that includes a series of scientific and time tested psychological testing techniques is as follows-

* Once All Candidates Have Undergone Stage One, The Results Of Stage One Testing Are Declared. Recommended Candidates Are Retained For Stage-II Testing And Those Not Recommended Are Sent Back On The Same Day.

STAGE – II    CONFERENCE

2. Self-Description Test (SD)

3. Word Association Test (WAT)

4. Situation Reaction Test (SRT)

1. Progressive Group Task 6. Group Discussion TYPE I
2. Half Group Task 7. Group Discussion TYPE II

C. INTERVIEW (01 EVENT ) - It Is Conducted On / From DAY II, III Or IV .

D. CONFERENCE- (01 EVENT ) It is Conducted On DAY V .


* The Result Of Stage II Are Announced On The Last Day & The Recommended candidates are retained for MEDICAL TESTING under the same board for further 5-10 days. Those who do not get recommended are sent back on the same day.

05. WAT SENTENCE WRITING ON THE GIVEN WORDS 15 SEC PER WORD. TOTAL 60 WORDS
06. SRT CADET HAS TO WRITE HIS REACTION ON THE GIVEN SITUATIONS. 60 SITUATIONS IN 30 MINUTES
07. TAT STORY WRITING ON GIVEN THEMES 4 MIN PER THEME TOTAL 12 THEMES
08. GD 1 CADET HAS TO CHOOSE ONE TOPIC FROM THE TWO GIVEN TOPICS & DISCUSS. 8 – 10 MINUTES
09. GD 2 CADET HAS TO DISCUSS THE TOPIC OF ACCESSOR’S CHOICE 8 – 10 MINUTES
10. GPE CADET HAS TO NEED TO MAKE A PLAN ON A GIVEN SITUATION AND THEN DISCUSS CGP. COMMON GROUP PLAN IS TO BE MADE IN G.D
11. HGT 01 / 02 GROUP TASK, SAME AS PGT BUT WITH HALF GROUP. 10 – 15 MINUTES
12. LECTURETTE CADET HAS TO DELIVER A LECTURE ON ANY ONE OF THE GIVEN TOPICS. FOR 3 MIN
13. INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES CADET HAS TO DO 10 PHYSICAL HURDLES / TASKS ONE AFTER OTHER. 3 MIN FOR ALL TASK
14. COMMAND TASK CADET IS LIKE MINI GTO, GIVES COMMAND TO TWO SUBORDINATES OF HIS GROUP FOR COMPLETION OF THE GIVEN TASK. 5 – 10 MINUTES
15. SNAKE RACE A SNAKE LIKE STRUCTURE HAS TO BE CROSSED THROUGH 7 – 8 STRUCTURES / GROUND HURDLES , ALONG WITH THE WHOLE GROUP. WAR CRY IS ALSO GIVEN
16. FINAL GROUP TASK FINAL TASK OF THE GTO LIKE THE HGT BUT WITH FULL GROUP. 15 – 20 MINUTES
17. INTERVIEW CADET HAS TO ANSWER ONE TO ONE I.E. FACE TO FACE, THE QUESTIONS OF THE INTERVIEWER. 30 – 90 MINUTES
18. CONFERENCE AT LAST CADET HAS TO FACE ALL THE OFFICERS IN ONE GO AND FINALLY IS TESTED ONLY THE PRESIDENT OR THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD INTERACTS WITH CADET

Note:

THE ABOVE WRITTEN SSB PROCEDURE IS BASED ON WHAT GENERALLY IS FOLLOWED IN DIFFERENT SSBs. STILL THERE CAN BE CERTAIN DIFFERENCES VIEW VARIOUS LIMITATIONS AND / OR TIME CONSTRAINS IN DIFFERENT SSBS AND / OR MISCELLANEOUS REASONS.
